Trip cancellation: top plan only, and only for listed reasons
Per the Table of Benefits, trip cancellation/curtailment cover exists only on Plan 3, limit USD 2,000 — Plans 1 and 2 don't include this benefit at all.
More important than the limit is the list of covered reasons — all serious, outside-your-control events:
- Death, serious injury or serious illness of the insured, an immediate family member, a close business partner, or a travel companion
- Being summoned as a witness or juror
- Natural disaster at the planned destination
- Complete destruction of the insured's principal residence
Lost baggage: covered — under three layers of sub-limits
| Benefit | Plan 1 | Plan 2 | Plan 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baggage & personal effects | — | $300 | $700 |
| Baggage delay ≥ 6h (essentials) | — | $100 | $300 |
| Lost passport/tickets (replacement + waiting costs) | — | $300 | $500 |
| Personal money | — | $100 | $200 |
The three sub-limits inside the baggage benefit (verbatim from the published terms):
- USD 200 maximum per item, USD 300 per pair or set
- Laptops capped at USD 300 — carry an expensive laptop and the excess is yours
- Baggage delay: essential purchases (toiletries, clothing) up to USD 53 per article, when checked baggage is delayed ≥ 6 hours from arrival
The 24-hour rule — know it before you need it
This is where most people lose a valid claim. Per the Policy Wording:
- Losses must be reported to local police / the carrier / the liable third party within 24 hours of occurrence
- Theft requires a written police report
- Traveller's cheques: report to police and the issuing authority's branch within 24 hours
Practical routine for a Schengen trip: photograph your baggage and valuables before flying (timestamped), save the assistance hotline from your policy email, and get the report on the spot the moment you discover a loss — the paperwork is mandatory at claim time.
So which plan for which traveller?
- Carry-on only, short trip: Plan 1 qualifies for the visa; baggage risk is yours to accept
- Checked baggage, laptop/camera: Plan 2 minimum — remember the USD 300 laptop cap; high-value gear warrants separate equipment cover
- Non-refundable bookings, family-driven schedule risk: Plan 3 — the only plan with cancellation cover (USD 2,000)
