First: all three plans clear the Schengen visa minimum
Schengen visa rules require medical cover of at least €30,000 including repatriation, valid across all Schengen states. LUMA World Pass states limits in USD:
| Core benefit | Plan 1 | Plan 2 | Plan 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emergency medical (in + out patient) | $50,000 | $100,000 | $200,000 |
| Emergency evacuation & repatriation | $1,000,000 | $1,000,000 | $1,000,000 |
| Repatriation of mortal remains | $1,800 | $1,800 | $1,800 |
€30,000 converts to roughly USD 32,000-35,000 — so even Plan 1 ($50,000) clears the visa bar, and every plan includes repatriation as required. If the goal is purely "qualify for the visa," Plan 1 already does the job. The certificate you receive is the final reference — check the amounts stated on it.
Where the plans actually differ: everything outside medical
| Benefit | Plan 1 | Plan 2 | Plan 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baggage & personal effects | — | $300 | $700 |
| Baggage delay ≥ 6 hours | — | $100 | $300 |
| Lost travel documents | — | $300 | $500 |
| Personal money | — | $100 | $200 |
| Trip cancellation / curtailment | — | — | $2,000 |
| Personal liability | — | $1,000 | $3,000 |
| Travel delay ($20 per 6h) | — | — | $100 |
| Follow-up care after return (90 days) | — | $3,000 | $5,000 |
| Accidental death / disablement | $1,000 | $2,000 | $3,000 |
Three honest takes:
- Short trip, hand luggage only: Plan 1 qualifies you at the lowest price — accepting that baggage and cancellation risks are yours.
- Checked baggage, multiple connections: Plan 2 is the sensible middle. A lost passport mid-trip is low-probability, high-cost — replacement costs, rebooking, accommodation while you wait.
- Non-refundable bookings, long trips, older travellers: Plan 3 — the only plan with trip cancellation cover ($2,000) and four times Plan 1's medical limit. For travellers 60+, the higher medical limit matters more than for anyone else on the road.
Fine print everyone should read before buying
- Pre-existing conditions are excluded — with a named list: cardiovascular conditions, hypertension, diabetes, tumours/cancers, HIV/AIDS, gallstones, and more. Claims arising from these aren't covered.
- No direct billing under USD 1,000 — you pay and claim back; above that, the insurer/assistance can arrange direct payment.
- Buy before your trip starts — events foreseeable at purchase time aren't covered.
- Eligible ages: 4 weeks to 75 years; maximum 180 consecutive days per policy.
- Leisure or non-manual business travel only — not for trips seeking medical treatment.
- The policy is underwritten by Bao Long Insurance Corporation and distributed globally by LUMA International (ORIAS 17 007 455, France).
